Repeat Prescriptions

You may submit your prescription request via one of the following methods:

• Online Services – Order your medications online via the link at the top of this page. If you are not already registered for online services, please contact a member of the team and we can assign a username & password to you. 

• PATCHS – Submit an administrative request using the link below. No login details required and the form is quick and easy to use. 

• Written Request – Write your prescription request on a piece of paper including your name, address, date of birth and signature so we can verify your details. Then deliver your request in our dedicated boxes at the entrance to our surgeries. Press the intercom button provided to speak to a receptionist if you are unsure. In addition, if you have a physical copy of your green prescription form, items available for repeat dispensing will be listed on a tear away slip. Simply tick the medications you require and deliver or post this slip to the practice. 

If you try to order your prescription over the phone or via email, a member of the team will have to politely decline your request and direct you to one of the options above.

Please do not submit requests more than 7 working days in advance without making reception aware. The practice has limited ability to ‘store’ requests and can only accept advance requests if the staff have been specifically informed.

Your Pharmacy may have a separate policy to assist you with an advance notice request, please contact them to confirm if this is an option.

Do You Get Regular Medicines?

Save time and help your surgery, your pharmacy and the NHS by using electronic repeat dispensing.  Your doctor will send a series of repeat prescriptions to your pharmacy in one go, so there’s no need for you to order them each time.  Contact the Reception team to book a telephone consultation with our Pharmacist or a GP to start using electronic repeat dispensing.

Electronic Prescribing Service

This practice is set up for the electronic prescription service. This means that for most patients we can send your prescription to your chosen chemist directly saving you having to come down to the surgery.

To get your prescription sent to your chosen pharmacy you will have to ask reception to sign up.

Medication Reviews System

You may only need to attend for a medication review every 3 -12 months depending on your clinical condition. The clinical team will assess your medication when your review is due and you may be asked to book appointments with the nursing team for routine monitoring blood tests / Management of your Diabetes/ Asthma/ Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease/Coronary Heart Disease/ Hypertension etc. Our aim is to ensure that your medical condition is managed by the appropriate person and avoid unnecessary surgery visits for you.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

• those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
• those who are age exempt
• those with certain medical conditions

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

• Prescription (per item): £9.15
• 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £105.90
• 3-month PPC: £29.65

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

What to expect from your local pharmacy team

Pharmacists are experts in medicines who can help you with minor health concerns.

As qualified healthcare professionals, they can offer clinical advice and over the counter medicines for a range of minor illnesses, such as coughs, colds, sore throats, tummy trouble and aches and pains.

If symptoms suggest it’s something more serious, pharmacists have the right training to make sure you get the help you need.  For example they will tell you if you need to see a GP.

Pharmacists are trained in managing minor illnesses and providing health and wellbeing advice.  Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends.  You don’t need an appointment – you can just walk in.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.

Help with your medicines

Pharmacists can answer your questions on prescription and over the counter medicines.  All pharmacies provide the following services:

• dispensing NHS prescriptions
• access to the repeat prescription service (EPS)
• an emergency supply of medicine (subject to the decision of the pharmacist)
• non-prescription medicines like paracetamol
• advice on treating minor health concerns

Repeat prescriptions

If you’re regularly prescribe the same medication, your GP may offer a prescription that can be repeated several times. 

You can choose which pharmacy you would prefer to collect your prescriptions from and your GP will send your prescription there (EPS).

You’ll then be able to collect your repeat medicines directly from the pharmacy you have chosen until your GP needs to review your treatment.  This means fewer trips to the GP just to get another prescription.
